Constable
Painting returns.
We welcome back
the painting of The Ascension,
which has been on loan to the
Lucien Freud exhibition in
Paris. A number of people from
Dedham went to see the exhibition,
some of whom remarked upon
the impact of seeing over 200
paintings and drawings by John
Constable in one place (something
he would never have seen, of
course.)
The range of
styles was a surprise: from
the famous landscapes to intimate
portraits, from delicate studies
of the sky during a sunset
after a storm, to the brooding
and severe works completed
after the death of his wife.
We continue to be grateful
to the trustees of The Constable
Trust, through whose vision
and generosity this painting
is on loan to Dedham.
