Snowdrops
for Aileen
The family of
the late Aileen Watts will
be planting snowdrops in the
churchyard in her memory -
when they grow, they should
be visible through the Galilee
porch.

Warmer Welcome
Visitors to the
Parish Church this winter will
find a warmer welcome than
in any previous year - because
of a generous donation towards
the cost of church heating.
One local resident, concerned
that the heating should be
on low during the week as well "full
blast" for special services
and on Sunday (which is a more
effective and efficient way
of heating the large space)
has given œ 1,000 "towards
the cost of heating".
Through this Magazine, and
on behalf of all visitors,
thank you!

What?
No Flag?
One
of the great local ways of
marking national and community
events is by the raising of
a flag on the top of the Parish
Church's 40 metre high tower.
But this will not be seen for
some while to come - because
of problems identified by the
architects in their 5-yearly
report on the state of the
building.
The
support blocks to the flag-pole
have rotted, making the whole
structure unsafe, particularly
if a flag is hoisted in strong
winds. The cost of putting
it right is estimated at about £ 2,000
- and, because of other repairs
and already undertaken, (for
example to the main door and
organ screen) this sum is just
not available in the church
budget for the time being.
An
anonymous cash donation
of £2000 given to
the Vicar means that the
flagpole support will now
be repaired early next
year and that the Cross
of St. George or Union
Flag will once again be
hoisted to mark special
events.
Thank you to the generous donor.
