YOUR VERY GOOD HEALTH
Dedham Relief in Sickness Trust
The Dedham Relief in Sickness Trust was set up from a village charity originally founded to support a District Nurse. When the NHS was established the charity was re-formed to provide healthcare aids, for example wheelchairs and bed-supports. Over time this service has become restricted by changes in legislation. It is no longer acceptable for a charity to provide equipment unless they can do so through professional practitioners. Even walking frames have to be fitted by qualified people nowadays, so the trust was finding increasingly difficult to use its modest income appropriately within this community.
The RIST has therefore decided to give a substantial part of its resources to the Dedham Vale Community Health Association, the group responsible for the healthcare premises at Roman Place in Manningtree Road. A grant of £5,000 has recently been made, with the possibilityof a further grant in due course, to help secure a NHS healthcare facility in those premises.

MARATHON DUO
London Marathon 2008
Two Dedham sisters, Joanne & Eleanor West, finished the 2008 London Marathon in a time of 4.43.02 – and thanks to all their supporters have raised over £3,500 for Action for ME, the charity that improves the lives of those with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and supports research into the condition. Eleanor and Jo faced problems at different times during the race, but pulled together and won through!
Congratulations to them both - Dedham is proud of them!

THANK YOU, LIZ...
Liz Nickerson has been the ‘Thursday afternoon lady’ in the Parish Office for getting on for eight years. Each week her voluntary secretarial skills have been of particular help to the Vicar. However, as she has reported to the Annual Church Meeting, the work of the Parish Office is far from limited to church matters.
In the Office she has served the village of Dedham and the other villages of the deanery of Dedham and Tey.Among her many duties, printing and collating have been her speciality. In recent years she has combined this service with being PCC Secretary.
Liz will be stepping down from the Parish Office after the Christmas ’rush’. The Vicar, Churchwardens, and PCC are most grateful to her for all that she has given through these years of service.

THANK YOU, GEORGE...
George Beeken has been the Verger of Dedham Parish Church for more than a decade. As he approaches his 80th birthday, and because his wife Beryl is not in the best of health, he has decided to retire.
George has organised much of the practical side of our worship effectively and discretely, to the extent that perhaps many have been unaware of all his hard work. In addition, for several days each week he has been the chief steward, welcoming the many visitors warmly, as our Visitors’ Book testifies.
George is a remarkable person who knows, and remembers, people and events going back more than 60 years. His service to the Church and to this community has been done on a voluntary basis, and without any break.
The Vicar, Churchwardens, and PCC are most grateful to him for his loyalty and service over the years. This fine example will be difficult to replace. A formal ‘thank you’ to George will be made early in the New Year.
